Traveling Tips for Students

There’s little better than being a student and heading out to see the world. It’s been said more than once, the mark of a true education isn’t the books you’ve read but the places you’ve traveled. With all of that in mind, I thought it might be a good idea to put together a few traveling tips for students.

1) Booze is expensive – Look, I’m no teetotaler, but I need to admit that my first travels would have been ten times as long and ten times as enjoyable if I would have realized the cost of partying and alcohol. Think about it, when you drink five beers you have almost paid for the price of a bungalow. Make them cocktails and you’ve paid for the bungalow and the transport. Move it into expensive glasses of wine and you are talking about a day of eating, site seeing, and transport. It’s easy to forget how much drinking costs.- and there is a second cost as well. You definitely won’t enjoy the next day as much with a hangover.

2) Don’t forget your student ID! Museums, buses, airlines, and all kinds of attractions offer student discounts that can save you all kinds of cash. The catch is that you need your student ID to prove that you are a student. Don’t leave home without it!

3) STA offers dscounted flights and hotels for students. Why pay full fare when you can pay less? Some of the packages includes student travel insurance as well.

4) Slow Down! The best things tend to happen when you are slowed down and taking the time to really relax. As a student, it can be hard to get past the idea that you have deadlines, your holiday ends soon, or that you have to rush somewhere. Take the time to relax and smell the roses. Sometimes you will find more by not going anywhere than you will traveling at 400 miles per second.

5) Look twice before booking a hostel. While hostels might have been the cheapest and best bet for your parents generation – you might have a better time couchsurfing or checking into a hotel and here’s the catch – couchsurfing is free and non-starred hotels are often more affordable than hostels!
